Quartz is a hard crystalline mineral composed of silica (silicon dioxide). There are many different varieties of quartz, several of which are semi-precious gemstones. Feldspar is a common raw material used in glassmaking, ceramics and to some extent as a filler and extender in paint, plastics and rubber.
